The Lady Indians finished the regular season with three wins, including a huge game at Bear Lake which tied the series and Preston won the tiebreaker for first seed. The Indians will host the winner of the Snake River and American Falls game on Saturday, May 2 in the 4A District 5 Softball Tournament.
Preston picked up a big district win, 14-9, over Bear Lake. The Indians handed the Bears their first district loss. Preston picked up the win despite seven errors as it had 14 hits. Bear Lake had six hits and committed five errors.
Averie Madsen was 4 for 5 at the plate for Preston with two RBIs and two runs and three doubles. Brielle Biggs had two hits, three RBIs and scored twice. Biggs hit a two-run homer in the fifth. Eight different Preston players had a hit.
Ellie Keller went the distance in the circle, striking out seven.
Preston picked up a district win over American Falls, 12-10 taking a slugfest against the Beavers. Both teams plated runs in five innings. Preston outhit American Falls 16-12, but also had more errors 4-2. A five-run fourth inning proved to be the difference, but the Beavers made it interesting with four runs in the bottom of the seventh.
Preston was led by freshman Ellie Keller, who went 4 for 4 at the plate and blasted two home runs and also had two doubles. She finished with six RBIs and scored three times.
Averie Madsen also had four hits for the Tribe, including three doubles. She scored three times and had two RBIs. Samantha Owens had three hits, scoring twice. Paisley Campbell and Brielle Biggs each had two hits.
Maysa Jones started the game in the circle, striking out five and walking two over five innings. Keller came on to throw the final two innings, walking three.
Preston beat up on Marsh Valley, 17-3, in five innings, At Arimo, the Lady Indians picked up a district win over the Eagles, scoring in every inning. Preston finished with 14 hits and committed just two errors, while allowing Marsh Valley just seven hits.
Preston jumped in front out of the gates, scoring 10 times in the top of the first and never looked back. Marsh Valley scored its runs over the final two innings.
Averie Madsen and Rachel Gilbert each went 3 for 4 at the plate. Madsen had four RBIs, scored three times and had a double and a triple. Gilbert finished with two runs and two RBIs.
Also getting multiple hits for the Tribe were Oakley Hatch, Chloe Dunn and Ellie Keller with two base knocks each. Hatch and Brielle Biggs had two RBIs each. Hatch also scored twice. Keller came home four times and had a home run and a triple. Biggs had a double.
In the circle, Tylee Archibald went the distance, striking out four and walking two for the win.
