A proposed price decrease will save typical Rocky Mountain Power's Idaho customers (using 800 Kilowatt-hours) about 12 cents on their monthly bills.
The company has proposed a 0.01 percent overall decrease on bills for Idaho customers. The decrease results from the recent changes in costs of providing energy to customers, together with adjustments stemming from federal tax changes.Â
The annual energy cost adjustment mechanism is designed to track the difference between the company’s actual expenses for fuel and other costs to provide electricity to customers, against the amount being collected from customers through current rates. While these costs were higher in 2018, that amount is more than offset by savings from the 2018 Federal Tax Act. The net bill impact to customers will be a decrease totaling $131,000 for the company’s 82,000 customers in Idaho.
Pending commission approval, the decrease from federal tax changes would take effect June 1, 2019, with the following impact on each rate schedule:
           Residential Schedule 1 – 0.01% decrease
           Residential Schedule 36 – 0.01% decrease
           General Service Schedule 6 – 0.2% decrease
           General Service Schedule 9 – 0.01% decrease
           Irrigation Service Schedule 10 – 0.01% decrease
           Commercial & Industrial Heating Schedule 19 – 0.01% decrease
           General Service Schedule 23 – 0.01% decrease
           General Service Schedule 35 – 0.01% decrease
Public Street Lighting – 0.01% decrease
           Tariff Contract 400 – 0.10% decrease
           Tariff Contract 401 – 0.10% decrease
The public will have an opportunity to comment on the proposal during the coming months as the commission studies the company’s request. The commission must approve the proposed changes before they can take effect. A copy of the company’s application is available for public review on the commission’s website, and at the commission offices. Customers may also subscribe to the commission’s RSS feed to receive periodic updates via email. The request also is available at the company’s offices in Rexburg, Preston, Shelley and Montpelier.
The Preston office is located at 509 S. 2nd East, Preston.
