My name is Alanna Nafziger, and I want to represent you as Logan’s next mayor. I grew up in Logan, within walking distance of where my ancestor Israel Justice Clark camped on the banks of the Logan River as part of the first pioneer scouting mission to Cache Valley.
These days, our city stands at a crossroads. Cache Valley’s population is expected to double in the next 25 years, and we’re already witnessing an explosion of growth, putting the unique character of Logan at risk. Unchecked development, a shortage of affordable housing, and an increasingly degraded green infrastructure also threaten our quality of life.
While it’s easy to feel powerless and overwhelmed, now is the time to take action. if you’re ready for a change in the values which will govern our future development, I’m respectfully asking all 52,000+ of you to support me in the coming mayoral election. This includes our younger community members, whose perspectives and voices often go unheard. We need you and your contributions!
I want to lead Logan toward a future that preserves the beauty and quality of life we have known and seriously addresses challenges such as housing (un)affordability, water and air quality, energy, infrastructure, and transit needs.
During my upcoming campaign I will work hard to bring people together throughout our community and facilitate the meaningful conversations we need to have. I know that collaboration and understanding are vital to getting good work done. This means really listening to a wide range of opinions, negotiating conflicts, not pretending to have all the answers, and working toward a future where all our residents are valued and their needs considered.
My training in landscape architecture has prepared me to engage with and help solve the significant problems facing our city. As your mayor, I would do my best to look at the big picture while also attending to practical, human-scale issues, such as considering how the design of a road or trail or park can contribute to the enjoyment, health, and connectivity of our community. The importance of this type of “lens” is demonstrated by how unplanned sprawl and density perpetuates and worsens problems with traffic, energy, pollution, and social connectivity.
If you share this vision of our community, I am asking you work with and support me in becoming Logan’s next mayor. Please reach out with questions, or invite me to an event with you and your friends and neighbors. Let’s discuss what we want Logan to be in 10, 20, even 30 years from now. Together, we can keep Logan a place where we, and future generations, will want to live.
