The Utah House Majority Caucus named Dist. 5 Rep. Casey Snider as the house majority leader Tuesday, according to a press release from the Utah House of Representatives.
Snider, whose district includes Mendon, Providence, Millville, Nibley, Wellsville, Hyrum, Paradise and Avon, began his legislative service in 2018 and was previously serving as the house majority assistant whip.
“I am honored to take on this role and grateful for the opportunity to serve,” Snider said. “Our leadership team is committed to serving the members of our caucus and the people of Utah with integrity and foresight as we continue to advance meaningful policy for the benefit of every Utahn.”
District 29 Rep. Bridger Bolinder will take over Snider’s previous post, while District 49 Rep. Candice Pierucci will be the new house majority whip. All three roles will continue through the remainder of the 2025-2026 term.
According to the Utah State Legislature, the whip and assistant whip “...are dependent upon the majority and minority leaders for their assignments but are usually responsible for reporting to the leadership any factors pertinent to the legislation being discussed and other business of concern to their respective parties.”
“The term ‘whip’ is derived from foxhunting where the huntsman’s assistant responsible for controlling the hounds is called the ‘whipper-in,’” it later adds.
Snider holds bachelor’s degrees in conservation and restoration ecology, and law and constitutional studies from Utah State University. His master’s degree from John Hopkins University is in environmental science and policy.
