Logan’s newest taproom, Home Range Brewing, is finishing off its first month of business. The taproom quietly opened its doors May 2, followed by a grand opening May 9.
Co-owners Chris Sisneros-Kidd and Cullen Williams called Home Range a community space for people to gather.
“That’s a really important piece of the business for us and that’s why we’re really excited to be in the heart of downtown Logan, in a very historic building,” Cullen said.
Cullen said their passion is beer, but for those looking for other options, they also offer wine and cider, as well as a range of non-alcoholic offerings like sparkling water and kombucha.
They plan to continue expanding their drink offerings and rotate in new beers regularly.
The taproom offers some bar snacks, but the owners said people are welcome to bring food in, and they encourage people to take advantage of the variety of local food options in the area.
Both experienced home brewers, the two met and became friends while working in a brewery in Laramie, Wyoming. While they talked about starting their own brewery for years, it was some time before they made real plans.
Chris moved back to Logan about four years ago. He and his wife met here while attending graduate school, and they fell in love with the area. Cullen spent a year in Salt Lake City working for another brewing business.
“But when we really decided we wanted to make this dream a reality, I left, and the rest is kind of history,” Cullen said.
Cullen focuses mainly on the operations and marketing side of the business, while Chris focuses on production.
The Herald Journal asked Chris and Cullen additional questions about Home Range.
What is your favorite part about running this business?
The two agreed the best part about running Home Range is the people, particularly their employees. Cullen sang the praises of their leadership team and bartenders.
“Our team is amazing,” Cullen said. “They are the ones who are interacting with the customers and bringing this place to life.”
What is the biggest challenge with running Home Range?
They said so far, the biggest challenge was the actual construction and preparation it took to open. It took about two years after finding the space to be ready for business.
“Turning a 100-year-old basement into a production facility is no small feat,” Cullen said.
What are your goals with this business?
A significant short-term goal is to start canning beer, which they plan to do shortly.
Under Utah law, breweries can’t serve anything over 5% alcohol by volume on draft. Canning will let Home Range sell their high-point beers on location and to go.
Chris said another goal on the production side is to feature more of the local agriculture in their beers.
Cullen said they also want to continue making the taproom a welcoming space for customers and supporting their team.
What sets you apart from other similar businesses in Logan?
Chris said being a taproom rather than a brew pub or a bar gives them a different vibe, but he feels the different breweries and bars in town complement one another.
“I think that’s always something we’ve loved about the craft beer industry is there really isn’t a lot of that competitive attitude in craft beer,” Chris said. He said a lot of breweries share techniques, collaborate, and help each other out.
Anything else that you want people to know about your business?
“Come hang out, have a beer, or a cider, wine, whatever’s your jam,” Chris said.
Home Range Brewing is located at 186 N Main Street in Logan.
