A few Saturdays ago in one day I collected almost 200 signatures on the following petition, which I have sent to Rep. Blake Moore and Senators Lee and Curtis. Pay attention to their votes on funding for Public Broadcasting to see if they listen to their constituents. UPR is also important to Cache Valley's economy.
Utah Public Radio, KUER Public Radio, and PBS Utah all offer public services essential to our well-being in Cache Valley and throughout Utah.
These media sources also provide crucial training for the next generation of journalists, grounded in their location on campuses. Many of us donate money to support these sources of information and entertainment, but they will not survive without continued support from Congress. We ask you to vote for that support.
Many of us receive local news, weather, and emergency information from these institutions. All offer programming focusing on Utah, including segments about local news stories. UPR offers “Access Utah,” “Wild about Utah,” and “Beehive Archive,” in collaboration with the Utah Humanities Council.
Among other programming, KUER offers the brilliant “RadioWest,” which often focuses on issues important to Utahans: religion, the environment, culture, and politics. PBS Utah has devoted programming that appeals to citizens within the state and beyond. For instance, a documentary on Utah’s most famous writer, Wallace Stegner, has been broadcast and rebroadcast throughout the nation, certainly drawing visitors to our state. Furthermore, PBS Utah presents “The Hinkley Report” on local Utah politics; “Roots, Race, & Culture,” seeks how to “find common ground across the aisle,” among other topics.
Please continue support for these essential sources of information.
