With the closing of the 2025 Municipal Candidate Declaration period having passed, the Cache County Election Office shared a comprehensive list of every single declared candidate Monday.
“This year’s filings mark a notable increase in both participation and competition across the county,” the press release states. “Eight municipalities — Hyrum, Lewiston, Logan, North Logan, Providence, Richmond, Smithfield and Wellsville — will hold primary elections on August 12, to narrow down candidates in 10 competitive races.”
With four municipalities combining for four races in 2023, Cache County Clerk Bryson Behm called the turnout exciting.
“It’s exciting to see more residents stepping forward to run for local office,” Behm said. “Contested races give voters meaningful choices and lead to stronger, more representative local government. We’re proud to support all 19 cities in running smooth, secure and transparents elections this year.”
According to the press release, five municipalities — Amalga, Cornish, Paradise, River Heights and Trenton — will not need to conduct elections, due to all races being uncontested. Any write-in candidates would necessitate an election, for each respective position.
Trenton was the lone municipality to have no declarations for a seat — a two-year councilmember. If no write-in candidates throw their name in the hat, the seat will be vacant, later to be filled by a special election.
Each municipality listed has one mayoral seat and two councilmember seats up for grabs.
