As Tremonton prepares for this year’s municipal elections, the Leader reached out to each of the sixteen candidates running for the five open seats on the Tremonton City Council. Two seats are for a two-year term, two are for a four-year term and one is for Mayor.
Bret Rohde is running for Mayor. Here are his responses to the provided questions:
Q: Why are you running for Tremonton City Mayor?
A: I’m running for Mayor to unite Tremonton under “Your Vote, Your Voice, Tremonton United!”
Q: What is the most important issue facing Tremonton today?
A: Tremonton’s biggest challenge is balancing growth with our small-town identity. As a 12-year City Council member and high school coach, I’ve seen how new businesses can fund better roads and safety but risk overshadowing our farms and Main Street charm.
I think the solution lies in listening to you through town halls and a feedback app, with a clear follow-up process: your input will be reviewed by the council. My 2025 Strategic Plan supports smart development and attracting retailers to boost revenue without tax hikes, while protecting our rural heritage. By collaborating with the council and residents, we’ll create a Tremonton where opportunity thrives and home feels like home.
Q: What previous political or public service experience do you have?
As a lifelong resident, 12-year City Council veteran, scoutmaster and high school coach, I’ve led our 2025 Strategic Plan to build a safe, thriving community by 2030. I think we can revitalize Main Street with new businesses, improve infrastructure and preserve our rural roots while listening to you through town halls and a feedback app.
My experience tackling challenges, passion for mentoring youth and love for sports drive my leadership. I’ll work closely with the council to ensure every voice shapes our future, making Tremonton a place where families flourish. Let’s build a brighter future together!
Q: If elected, will you work to change specific city policies? If so, which one(s)?
A: As mayor, I’ll refine policies to strengthen Tremonton, guided by your input. I’ll:
-Boost engagement with town halls and a feedback app for transparency.
-Simplify economic development to attract retailers and industries, funding Main Street revitalization and infrastructure without major tax increases.
-Expand secondary water systems to secure our water future by 2030.
I think these changes, developed with the council, veterans, businesses and you, will ensure growth honors our rural heart. As a coalition-builder, I’ll steer the council to listen to your voice, uniting Tremonton for a thriving future.
Q: What does Tremonton and the community mean to you?
A: Tremonton is my home, my roots, my heart. It’s the roar of Bear River High games – where I’ve coached for years – the bustle of the Golden Spike Fair and the pride of honoring veterans at Midland Square. As a resident, 12-year City Council member and scoutmaster, I cherish our fields, Main Street spirit and neighborly bonds.
Tremonton means families, farmers, and shop owners building a vibrant town together. I think “Your Vote, Your Voice, Tremonton United!” captures our vision to unite every voice through town halls and open dialogue. I’m running to keep Tremonton special – a place where kids grow strong, and community thrives.
Q: What would you like Tremonton residents to know about you?
A: I’m your neighbor, dedicated to Tremonton. With 12 years on the City Council, I’ve shaped our 2025 Strategic Plan to make our community safe and connected by 2030. As a scoutmaster, high school coach, hospital board member and church volunteer, I’ve served our youth, veterans and families.
I love sports – having played them throughout my youth – and I think mentoring kids builds strong communities. My campaign, “Your Vote, Your Voice, Tremonton United!”, commits to listening through town halls and a feedback app to bring your ideas to life. I’ll revitalize Main Street, secure water systems and grow responsibly while preserving our rural soul. Vote for a Tremonton where every voice counts!
