Frozen yogurt and soft-serve ice cream business Shivers is moving to Smithfield. The business announced on its social media Friday that Saturday would be its last day at its Logan location, 1007 N Main Street.
The new location is 103 N Main Street in Smithfield, next to Pizza Stop. Owner McKenzie Jess said she hopes to open the new space in mid-April.
Jess said the new location is twice the space, will offer more menu items, larger seating area and patio seating.
The owner credited the decision to move to the increase in rent at the Logan location.
“We’ve been doing fine in Logan, and we liked the location, but with rent increasing we had to make a split decision,” Jess said.
The dessert spot is the third business to leave the business park on the corner of 1000 N Main St in recent months. Denny’s and Krispy Kreme both closed their Logan locations in that area in December.
According to the Cache County Parcel and Zoning Viewer, the property in Logan where Shivers, Denny’s and Krispy Kreme were located is owned by Bridgerland Holdings LLC.
Jess said it was tough to find a place in Logan that would accommodate their timeline and the space they needed, but they are excited about the Smithfield location.
“We will be adding new menu items, like fresh soft pretzels, soft drinks and dirty sodas, and churros,” Jess said.
She said she is also starting a second business out of the kitchen — a wedding catering company called Ambrosia.
Jess said she wanted to apologize to people on the south end of the valley who don’t make the trip to Smithfield often.
“But if you are ever coming this way, we are right behind Pizza Stop, and they make some good pizza,” Jess said. “So come grab yourself some pizza and stop by Shivers for a treat.”
Shivers opened in Jan. 2022. The business offers soft-serve ice cream, Italian ice, frozen yogurt, frozen custard and gelato in a variety of combinations.
According to the website, Jess and her husband Logan chose to open Shivers after the Logan location’s previous tenant, Yogurtland, shut down.
