UPDATE, Thursday: Authorities say the man who died in Wednesday's crash involving a UTV was Shad Roundy, 45, of Cache Junction.
Original story
A Wednesday morning crash claimed the life of a 45-year-old man from Cache Junction.
The incident was reported at 7:49 a.m. along State Route 23 and 4600 North, according to Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Jason Kendrick.
At the time, a man driving a side-by-side UTV on 4600 North stopped at the intersection. Two vehicles — a passenger car followed by a pickup truck — were driving southbound on SR-23.
Kendrick said once the car passed the intersection, the driver of the UTV, for whatever reason, decided to cross SR-23 from east to west and was struck by the pickup.
It is not known why the UTV driver, whose name is being withheld at this time, decided to cross the road when he did, Kendrick said, explaining investigations showed the two vehicle drivers on SR-23 were not speeding or driving carelessly.
“We might never know the answer,” he said. “Maybe a quick glance and he (the UTV driver) didn’t see the second vehicle. ... This was two vehicles traveling, with nothing out of the normal.”
