Cache Democrats join the country, state, and other county parties in being horrified by the political violence we have seen over the last few days.
The senseless acts of the assassinations and attempted assassinations in Minnesota are tragic. They speak to a bigger problem in our society and that is seeing political differences as a threat or an enemy.
Differences will never be resolved through violence or the kind of rhetoric that comes with it. We also condemn the divisive words of Utah Senator Mike Lee in making light of this tragedy and placing blame on the Governor of Minnesota and alluding to other reasons for this horrible situation. His statement does not represent Utah, nor does it represent Cache County Democrats.
He must do better, and we must do better as a society and stand together in condemning political violence of any kind. If he can’t do better for our state and show empathy in times like this, then he needs to step down from his role and allow others to lead with compassion.
We also join the state of Utah as we mourn an innocent life taken in a such a tragic manner as took place at the rally in Salt Lake City on Saturday. We send love and condolences to the family of Arthur Folasa “Afa” Ah Loo and ask anyone able to provide support to the family to do so through the Go Fund Me page set up for his wife and two children.
We condemn violence of any kind. We ask that as a country, as a county, and within our local communities, we use this moment to recommit ourselves to civility and respect in our politics.
