We are delighted to announce the 90th birthday celebration for Keith Thomas Checketts. All are invited to celebrate with Keith at an open house on Thursday, June 5, 2025, from 6:00-8:00 pm at the YSA 1st Stake Center – East Building, 1385 East 1100 North, Logan. No gifts please.
Keith was born on June 4, 1935, in Ogden, Utah to Thomas and Mable Checketts. Keith has one brother, Glen, and two sisters, Beth Anderson Allen and Connie Stowe. Keith received his bachelor’s degree from Utah State University in 1959 and his doctorate degree from the University of Minnesota in 1965. A year after his graduation from USU, Keith met Carol Donaldson, also of Ogden, and they were married in the Logan Temple in August 1961. Keith and Carol were blessed with six children: Mary (Jay) Albretsen, Melinda, Ruth (Lance) Loveland, Michelle (Kendall) Topham, Tom (Lynette), and Stan (Cami). Their family has grown to include 34 grandchildren and 62 great grandchildren.
After receiving his Ph.D., Keith and Carol returned to Logan and USU where Keith joined the faculty for 35 years as a professor of psychology, director of both the testing center and the school counseling program.
Keith and Carol’s lives have been devoted to service to their family, church and community where they have been a profound influence on many lives both locally and around the world. Keith was elected for three terms (12 years) on the Utah State Board of Education and was elected Chairman for three years. He also served for several years on the ACT Board of Trustees.
As a young man, Keith served in the National Guard and also served a mission to the Western Canadian Mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Later in life, Keith and Carol served several senior missions: Bangkok Thailand (LDS Charities); Myanmar (LDS Charities); South Pacific Islands (Church Education); and Addiction Recovery Mission (Logan). Keith served twice as a bishop, and he and Carol loved serving together as ordinance workers in the Logan Temple.
A lifelong lover of music, Keith was selected a member of the Mendelssohn Club performing with the Philadelphia Philharmonic during a one-year sabbatical to the University of Pennsylvania.
Keith and Carol have been extremely supportive parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents attending innumerable, baby blessings, baptisms, ordinations, sporting events, graduations, concerts, musicals, missionary sacrament meetings, and other events of their descendants.
Keith has created treasured memories on numerous family vacations and reunions – especially at Bear Lake. Together with their children and spouses, Keith and Carol celebrated their 50th anniversary on an Alaskan cruise and their 60th anniversary in Puerta Vallarta.
Happy 90th Birthday to our dear Dad, Grandpa and Great Grandpa! We love you!
