Those interested in running for office in their local municipality must have their declaration of candidacy filed by 5 p.m. Friday, which can be done at the respective city office building or by contacting the respective city recorder.

Individuals seeking candidacy for any position must meet the following qualifications, per Utah Code:
- Be a registered voter in the municipality in which the individual is seeking candidacy
- Have resided in the municipality for 12 consecutive months immediately prior to seeking candidacy
- Maintain a principal place of residence within the municipality and, if applicable, within the district elected, for the duration of the term
- Have no prior felony or treason convictions, and no other crimes against the elective franchise
- Have not been declared mentally incompetent
- Be a registered United States citizen
- Be 18 years or older
Information on available seats and how many candidates have filed for each is located below.
Lewis Roesberry, Mark Anderson and Matthew Fatuesi have declared candidacy for Logan City Mayor. Joshua Molitor, Kristi Fatuesi, Reilly Fatuesi, Katie Lee-Koven, Ernesto Lopez and Melissa Dahle have declared candidacy for two available Logan Municipal Council seats.
Alanna Nafziger informed The Herald Journal she would be filing for mayor as well, Wednesday afternoon.
Incumbent Larry Jacobsen is the only declared candidate for Nibley City Mayor. Troy Ribao and Nick Kenczka have declared candidacy for two available Nibley City Council seats.
Jeff Young is the only declared candidate for Richmond City Mayor. Incumbents Daryl Black and Lyle Bair are seeking reelection as four-year councilmembers, while Sharik Peck II and Kayleen Bell are seeking four- and two-year terms, respectively.
Trenton
With the Trenton City Mayor and two, four-year councilmembers terms up for grabs, one person has filed for the latter.
Blake Wright, who replaced now-Rep. Jason Thompson as River Heights Mayor in January, is running for reelection, while Kandi Evans has filed for a four-year councilmember term. River Heights also has a two-year councilmember term up for election.
With Hyde Park Mayor and two, four-year councilmember seats available, incumbent-Mayor Bryan Cox is the only person to have declared candidacy. He will be running for mayor.
Incumbent-Mayor Kris Monson and incumbent four-year councilmember Sue Hyer are both running for reelection. Smithfield has two, four-year councilmember seats available.
Incumbent-Mayor Stephanie Miller is running for reelection, while NaLyn Nelson, Paul James and Joshua Kyle Cannon are each running for Hyrum’s two, four-year councilmember seats.
Kathleen Alder, the incumbent-mayor, is running for reelection. No other candidates have filed for Providence City Mayor or the two, four-year councilmember seats available.
Perry Maughan and Chad Lindley are running for Wellsville City Mayor, while no declarations have been made for the two, four-year councilmember terms.
Byron Ashcroft will be running for mayor, while Clay Wilker, Jacob Ames, Darcy Ripplinger and Daniel Grange will be running for two, four-year councilmember seats.
North Logan
Incumbent-Mayor Lyndsay Peterson is running for reelection. She is the only person to declare candidacy for North Logan Mayor and the city’s two councilmember seats have seen no declarations.
Ryan Thompson is running for Clarkston Town Mayor, while Jared Petersen, Michael Kelly and Russel Davis have declared candidacy for the four-year councilmember term. No declarations have been made for the two-year councilmember term.
Other
Lewiston, Newton and Cornish haven’t received any declarations of candidacy. Mendon and Paradise officials did not immediately respond to a request for information and The Herald Journal was unable to locate information on their websites. Each city has a mayoral seat and two councilmember seats open for election.
The 2025 General Election is on Nov. 4.
